Delivering presentations through the Charlotte Chamber or your local Chamber is an incredible way to attract new business. You do know that everyone wants to do business with the expert, right? If you conduct a well organized seminar guess what? You are now that expert in the eyes of every attendee.
The benefit to the Chamber in hosting your event is providing valuable information to it’s member base, “member value” as its referred to at the Charlotte Chamber. Your rewards are many fold:
- Gathering a captive audience of people (prospective clients) interested in your business
- Positioning yourself as the local go-to provider of your product or service
- A free venue, as I guarantee the Chamber will provide a meeting space
- Free marketing through the Chamber’s email and print publications. The more successful your talk, the better the Chamber looks to its members
- An opportunity to collect attendees’ contact information to grow your mailing lists
- The opportunity to turn excited attendees into evangelists (eg. salespeople) for your business, yes this does happen
- Need I go on?
If handing out business cards to everyone you meet at Chamber networking events is not energizing your pocket book, give this idea a test spin and if you follow the suggestions above the results will amaze you!

Michael, thanks for sharing these tips.
What about business people (in Charlotte or otherwise) with no experience interacting with the Chamber of Commerce?
Does your business have to cater to other business people as clients, in order to warrant a Chamber presentation?
What kinds of presentations are typical / well-received?
And what kinds of businesses are typically members of Chambers of Commerce? Large corporations? Sole proprietors?
Again, thanks for sharing.

Bolaji,
All great questions. First, I don’t believe a business has to target other business in order for a Chamber presentation to make sense. Many of the business owners, sales associates and other members are consumers themselves; so a presentation on consumer-oriented products or services would have value for all parties.
That said because a core of the Chamber’s, especially the Charlotte Chamber’s mission is to grow member businesses; education that supports this end is going to be the most attractive. How to better market your business, sales strategies, business financing, etc are all great presentation topics for would-be educators to consider.
In terms of headcount, the vast majority of Charlotte Chamber businesses are small to mid sized. The proporting is very similar to what we see in the real world. The big dogs are well represented as well.
Thanks for reaching out.
Michael
